Integrating Transportation Planning & Asset Management
Opus developed an integrated transportation investment plan by combining the transportation planning and asset management disciplines.
The City of Vernon's Integrated Transportation Framework (ITF) endeavored to balance roadway levels of service and financial sustainability while providing a functional transportation network for pedestrian, cyclists and vehicles. The ITF identified practical cost control measures for the City to implement that would reduce ongoing roadway system renewal and replacement costs, ensuring a financially sustainable approach to managing the City's largest class of infrastructure.
The ITF consisted of a highly versatile transportation network model that could be adjusted by staff on an ongoing basis. Standard Cross sections made up part of the model and these were integrated into the City's bylaws for new road development as well as capital works programs. A number of recommendations were given to put the City of Vernon on the path of financial sustainability.
