Managing liquid waste
Co-digestion is the feeding of high strength liquid wastes directly to anaerobic digesters to generate energy - biogas - and process otherwise difficult to treat waste streams. It has two benefits: energy is saved by diverting waste streams out of the liquid treatment process; and energy is produced by the rapid conversion of these wastes in existing anaerobic sludge digesters.
We can also help with planning and implenting waste solutions that use High Solids Anaerobic Digestion (HSAD) for treating solid organic wastes - particularly food waste. HSAD is a relatively new technology developed and commercialized in Europe, mainly seen in Germany.
Managing food waste
HSAD is ideal for processing food waste and combined food and yard waste in streams as very little pre-processing of the waste stream is required. Energy needed to operate the HSAD process is low and the digested organic material is high in nutrients and composts easily.
Managing municipal wastewater
Municipal wastewater contains large amounts of heat that can be extracted using heat pumps and distributed to residential or commercial customers for use as a heating or cooling source depending on the season. District Energy Systems (DES) are used to distribute heat to customers. DES can be high temperature or low depending on the heat source and customers' heating and cooling needs.
