Repair and redesign of a biofilter odor control facility
We helped the South Kern Industrial Centre (SKIC) to redesign biofilters used to treat foul air from a compost operation, to meet strict regulations.
Redesign of the filters included reconstruction of media and under-drainage so that a porous bedding and filter media would protect the acidic lower biological operating conditions from the upper neutral conditions to achieve the desired balance and treatment objectives.
The size of the four biofilters at the facility in Bakersfield, California, cover about 1 acre and treat about 150,000 cfm. The biofilters are used to treat foul air from the compost operation. Regulations required the air quality to meet strict volatile organic carbon emission limits.
